FAQ

  • The ACT is an entrance exam used by U.S. based college and universities for student applications. It is a multiple choice, timed exam that covers English, reading, math and science. The ACT is 2 hours and 55 minutes long and is scored on a scale of 1 to 36 points. This exam is important for college admissions because it measures students' readiness for college through one common data point. Since high school grades can vary per high school, the ACT is a good way to measure all students from different backgrounds on the same exact test.

  • ACT Tutoring is a great way for students to prepare for the exam because tutors will focus on exactly what the student needs help with. Students can bring past exam scores, questions, practice tests etc to go over in depth with the tutor. The tutor can go over test taking strategies, from time management to tips and tricks for different questions. Tutors also have access to past practice tests to assign homework. With this time devoted to their needs, students can make personalized goals for specific scores.

  • Our tutors are all college students or recent graduates who are vetted and trained by Juni. These students have taken the SAT, and many have also done SAT tutoring prior to joining Juni as well. What makes our tutoring stand out is the relationship between our students and their tutors (called instructors). Our instructors are not just teachers, but near peer role models who guide our students and foster confidence and a joy of learning.

  • Students can bring their own questions, or the tutor can present them with Juni’s extensive bank of practice questions to help prepare them. Each session is personalized to the students' needs. After the class, tutors will assign homework to work on and send session notes to parents to show what students covered in class.

  • The first ACT tutoring session can be used to outline realistic goals, study expectations and more. Students are expected to do outside work to make true improvements to their score. While tutoring can definitely help improve their score by a few points, there is an expectation that students will commit to their study plan, most likely including daily practicing.

  • Since tutoring sessions are customizable, that means that students can focus on one specific section during every session if they like. Students and tutors should go over test goals in their first session to decide what they'd like to focus on.

  • Our tutoring sessions require: 1- A desktop or laptop computer that runs Windows or Mac OS, with a working microphone, speaker, and webcam. 2- The Chrome browser and Zoom Client must be installed. 3- A high-speed internet connection (at least 10 Mbps). We also strongly recommend headphones to help your child to concentrate, and be immersed in the virtual classroom.

  • Tutoring sessions are 50 minutes long, and it is expected that students will sign up for 4 sessions/month. We highly recommend 8 sessions/month if the exam is in the next month or two to accelerate the studying.

  • Our tutoring classes are scheduled for 4x/month at the same time every week. These classes can be rescheduled up to 24 hrs before the class time, with easy make-ups available in the Juni Portal. You can always request a new recurring time if your child's schedule changes. You can also increase to 8x/month or buy a single-use pack of 4 tutoring sessions for $300 that can be scheduled on an as-needed basis.
