October 2020: World Animals Day
As you may have noticed, Juni’s Hackathons have taken on a new name: Coding Open Challenges! With our focus on hands-on learning and creativity, we have decided to refer to these competitions as Open Challenges to emphasize their goal — applying computer science ideas to an open theme, and presenting your work to a worldwide audience!
This month, our Coding Open Challenge theme was World Animal Day, celebrated on October 4th. Students coded a variety of creative projects, including animal-themed adventure games, trivia challenges, and even a cow farm simulator. Each submission was evaluated on four aspects: code quality, complexity, creativity, and presentation.

What is the Juni Coding Open Challenge?
Open challenges are an invaluable experience for engineers of all backgrounds. They give both advanced and new coders the opportunity to collaborate with others, show off their creative skills, and learn from hands-on experience.
Traditionally, coding competitions are often day-long events limited to college students or adults, and held at physical venues that can be hard for some to attend. Despite all odds, Juni was determined to make the hands-on coding experience accessible for passionate young coders all over the country.
And thus, the Juni Coding Open Challenge was born!
What’s great about our Coding Open Challenge?
- Free to compete
- 100% online - you only need a computer and internet connection!
- Open to various ages, and levels of coding experience
- Win prizes!
